March 2022

Ukraine Relief

The important cause that we chose for the month of March is Ukraine Relief. Watching any media outlet that covers the war brings complete sadness to our hearts. We think it's important to try to help those affected as much as we can. Below, I've listed three charities I've looked into that are doing an amazing job bringing aide to those in need. If you have a charity in mind that is not on the list just let us know so we can look into it and donate to them.

1. Global Empowerment Mission https://www.globalempowermentmission.org/

With the objective of minimizing the duration of time communities are stuck in the gap, and aiming to complete the cycle of disaster response, GEM instituted its sustainable development programming by building and rebuilding homes, schools and communities while establishing livelihood initiatives. GEM has been able to reduce what was an initial three year sustainability cycle in Haiti to a refined approach that resulted in a one year sustainability cycle in the Bahamas. To date, GEM has supported missions in 28 countries, all 50 US states, and territories including the Caribbean. The organizations complete 360 degree response results in having a long-lasting institutional impact.

2. UNICEF https://www.unicef.org/

UNICEF is working around the clock to scale up life-saving programs for children. This includes: Ramping up efforts to meet critical and escalating needs for safe water, health care, education and protection. Delivering family hygiene kits, baby diapers, maternal health kits, institutional hygiene kits, disinfectants and bottled water to health and social institutions.

Providing essential health services, including promotion of vaccination (including COVID-19 and polio vaccination), infant and young child feeding, and essential supplies including vaccines, health supplies, medicines and micronutrient supplements. Working with partners to provide safe drinking water supplies through water trucking and delivering bottled water. Facilitating access to temporary learning, including the distribution of education and recreational supplies for children and adolescents as well as recreational and early childhood development activities. Supporting mobile child protection teams providing psychosocial care, mental health support, and protection services. Launching a humanitarian cash transfer program to support tens of thousands of the most vulnerable families with children. Working with UNHCR and partners to activate Blue Dot hubs – one-stop safe spaces for children and women. Blue Dots provide key information to traveling families, help to identify unaccompanied and separated children and ensure their protection.

3. World Central Kitchen www.wck.org

Across Ukraine, WCK continues to expand our efforts and adapt to the ongoing situation—we’re bringing hundreds of thousands of daily meals and food kits to over 2,000 distribution sites including in recently liberated cities, isolated communities where there is little to no other humanitarian assistance, locations supporting displaced families, and neighborhoods caught in the crossfire of the invasion.
